Glitz, glamour and nostalgia were all on show at the Cork County Macra’s 60th Anniversary gala ball which was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Little Island on Saturday January 22nd 2011. Close to 400 past and present members of Macra na Feirme gathered to celebrate this fantastic millstone in the county’s history. After a mulled wine reception all were treated to a fantastic meal and night full of entertainment. Opening the proceedings Cork County Secretary Michelle O’ Callaghan cut the county’s anniversary cake with Michael Buckley Cork County Chairperson 1960 to 1961. Mertyle Allen then went on to recall her time in Macra and the benefits it brought to the local community. Richard Hinchion also a past County Chairperson spoke on the skills that the organisation has given its members. Donal Sweeney Cork County Chair 2007-2009 spoke on the present day organisation and the changes in the county over the past numbers of years. National President Michael Gowing recalled the counties achievements and current Cork County Chairperson James Healy who was MC for the night thanked all who had helped to make the event so special. Guests then danced the night away to the music of ‘Wallstreet’ & DJ Mark. Into the small hours of the morning guests could be seen chatting and reliving memories of days past. The current Cork Executive of James Healy (Chairperson), Michelle O’ Callaghan (Secretary), Margaret Galvin (PRO) & Caitrona Fox (Treasurer) would like to extend their thanks to all those who attended the event and who helped in anyway to make the night so successful & memorable. Here is to another great 60 years for Cork County Macra na Feirme.
